Holiday baking in the midst of loss

Hey y'all, Amy here. The holiday season is upon us, and this is always my favorite time of the year. This year, however, it's far more bittersweet than usual. My sweet mom, Myra, passed away just over two months ago. It's still so hard to believe most days. I think I've been doing about as well as one can expect, but these next few weeks are going to be tough.

This was Mom's favorite season too, and everything reminds me of her, from the Christmas music to the Hallmark movies ... and the baking. Especially the baking. Mom's shortbread cookies have been one of my favorite holiday traditions for as long as I can remember, and her double-chocolate chip pound cake has reached mythical status in certain family circles. Even though I'm not typically a baker (ironic, huh), I hope to make an exception for those two recipes. And yeah, I'll probably cry a little while I'm making them ... but I bet I'll smile some, too. And I know my kids will.

If the holiday season's tough for you as well because you're missing loved ones, know you're not alone. It's OK to feel the way you feel. I hope you can find solace in some sweet memories, too.❤️ 💚

Do you have holiday memories or traditions that go along with baking, too? We’d love for you to share them with us in the comments!
