Who the Bake Sale Helps

Did you know America has a problem with child hunger? Believe it or not, millions of children in America experience food insecurity each day. According to the USDA, in 2022, 17% of U.S. households with children experienced food insecurity, impacting 13.4 million children. That means 1 in 5 American children don't have enough food, or don't know where their next meal will come from. When children have enough food, they can concentrate on important things like doing well in school, playing sports, and graduating. At Itty Bitty Bakers, we have a passion for alleviating the burden of food insecurity in the lives of children and families both locally and across the country.

The non-profit organization Feeding America is the largest hunger-relief charity in the United States. Through a network of more than 200 food banks, 21 statewide food bank associations, and over 60,000 partner agencies, food pantries and meal programs, they helped provide 6.6 billion meals to tens of millions of people in need last year. Feeding America also helps to prevent food waste, improve food security, and push for legislation that protects people from going hungry.

The Itty Bitty Bakers Bake Sale 2026 invites young bakers to showcase their baking talents while supporting a great cause. Participants will bake recipes at home and present them for sale, with all proceeds going to Feeding America's local food bank - the Community Food Bank of Alabama.

Where the Bake Sale Takes Place

We will have two bake sale sites this year: Wildflower Park in the Riverchase neighborhood and Hoover Fire Station 8 near Greystone Elementary. The Riverchase location of the bake sale will be led by former teacher turned Teacher Support Manager Melissa Carden and Customer Service Manager Amy Jones. The Greystone location of the bake sale will be led by owner Jessica Hamby and teacher Hillary Ryan. Partiicpants can choose to help out at either location on the big day!

What to Bake for the Sale

We will email a PDF featuring recipes that have been successful at bake sales in the past. Volunteers who register for the bake sale can select any of these recipes to bake at home and bring to the bake sale. It includes recipes like Oreo Pound Cake, Mini Cherry Pies, Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies, Dog Treats, and more!

Why Participate in the Bake Sale

The bake sale is a chance for kids to learn that their baking skills can be used to help others. Whether staying to help with the sale, or just dropping off their treats, kids will gain a summer break experience focused on using their time and efforts to make a positive impact in the world.

If your child is interested in participating, please register and we will be in contact with more information. Registering does not obligate you to help with the bake sale.
