Hi, friends! Emily Masters, here! Did you know that today is National Puppy Day?

There’s just something about a puppy that gets me every time. Their playfulness, their curiosity, and their all around cuteness can easily melt me into a big, blubbering puddle.
Read on as I share with you some puppy treats you can make for them, and some ways you can help the puppies in your local community over spring break.
Puppy Treats
Wanting to spoil your favorite puppy with some homemade dog treats?
Grab a bone shaped cookie cutter from Amazon and follow this simple recipe from Sugar and Spice by Celeste.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup of peanut butter
1/4 cup honey
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup chicken broth
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup all-purpose flour
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Whisk together peanut butter, honey, oil and chicken broth. In a separate bowl, combine flours and oatmeal. Mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients.
Place dough on flour dusted surface. Roll or press dough out to about 1/4” inch thick. Use a small bone cookie cutter to cut out cookies. My cookie cutter was a 5-inch bone-shaped , but for small dogs you may want to use a small cookie cutter (around 2″). Roll out leftover scraps and cut out as many as possible.
Put cut out cookies on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake for 14-16 minutes. Transfer to a cooling rack.
Fostering Puppies
Last fall, I taught a dog treat baking class at my house and it was a BLAST. The highlight of this class was being visited by two puppies from Two by Two Animal Rescue.

Two by Two is comprised of a network of volunteer foster homes across the Greater Birmingham Area, and I’m proud to say my family has been able to foster nearly 20 puppies through this fantastic organization. They provide everything needed to care for the animals until they are adopted into their loving forever homes.
If you think your family would want to foster, apply here. They also need temporary fosters for the week of Spring Break if you are interested in something even more short term.
What a great way to give back to our community, and while you’re at it- have fun in the kitchen whipping up some dog treats for those pups!
BONE appetit!
